What is Hyperloop?

Hyperloop is a vehicle in which passengers and goods are transported at the speed of 930 miles an hour in a giant low pressure tube, either above ground or below ground and it is now under development by a number of companies.

Hyperloop was designed by ElonMusk, he is its co-founder and president ElonMusk, promises to speed at a speed of more than 1,200 km/h.

Gresta has already signed agreements with Abu Dhabi, the United States, France, China, India and Spain to begin feasibility studies and build Hyperloop.

Difference between hyperloop and modern trains?

There are two big differences between Hyperloop and traditional rail. Firstly, the pods carrying passengers travel through tubes or tunnels from which most of the air has been removed to reduce friction. This allows the vehicle to travel at a speed of 1,500 km per hour(930 miles an hour).
Secondly, rather than using wheels like a train or car, the pods are designed to float on air skis, using the same basic idea as an air hockey table, or use magnetic levitation to reduce friction.

Pros of hyperloop

Supporters argue that Hyperloop could be cheaper and faster than train or car travel, and cheaper and less polluting than air travel. They claim that it’s also quicker and cheaper to build than traditional high-speed rail.
It has very low power consumption.
It is low cost transportation system on long run.
It is immune to bad weather conditions.

Cons of hyperloop

● High speed of capsule (almost at speed of sound) may cause dizziness to the passengers travelling due to vibration and jostling.
● Initial cost of investment to have the system in place is very high. The long vacuum chamber manufacturing requires more technical skills. Moreover this is costly and also risky to maintain.
● Land use rights will be concern for deployment of the project.
● It has very high risk to life when something wrong happens to the system.
● It has limited space in the train and hence people cannot move freely.

How much will Hyperloop tickets cost?

Musk’s LA to San Francisco version offered tickets at just $20 but Virgin Hyperloop One is more vague on its plans: “Difficult to say as it will depend greatly on the route, but the goal is to make it affordable for everyone,” it said, while Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) said it expects “a profitable system with low ticket price projections”.

Hyperloop in India

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies are in process to sign a Letter of Intent with the Indian Government for a proposed route between chennai and Bengaluru. If things go as planned, the distanceof 345 km could be covered in 30 minutes.

HTT also signed an agreement with Andhra predhesh government to build India’s first Hyperloop project connecting Amravati to Vijayawada in a 6-minute ride.

On February 22, 2018, Hyperloop One has entered into a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Government of Maharashtra to build a hyperloop transportation system between Mumbai and Pune that would cut the travel time from the current 180 minutes to just 20 minutes
